When you sign the declaration in the application form you are confirming that you have read and understood the IELTS test terms and conditions and agree to abide by them.

PLEASE NOTE:  

Security at IELTS tests is important to us. As an added measure, all participants will be required to have their photograph taken by IELTS administrative staff on their test day. 

Test date transfer

*The contract between you and the British Council will only be formed when you are sent the Enrolment Confirmation. 

  • You may request a test date transfer up to 5 weeks before the exam date. You will be charged an administration fee no greater than 25% of the cost of the test. You will have to send us a signed copy of the IELTS Test Date Transfer Form (PDF 73kb) to your IELTS administration centre and proof of payment of the corresponding administration fee. Download our bank details (PDF 50 kb) to make the payment.
  • You may also request a test date transfer within five weeks of the test date for the following reasons: certified Illness, loss or bereavement – death of a close family member, hardship/trauma – victim of crime, victim of a traffic accident. You will have to send the following documents within five working days of your test date to your IELTS administration centre:
  1. 
A signed copy of the IELTS Test Date Transfer Form (PDF 73kb)
  2. Medical certificate* from a qualified medical practitioner, a death certificate, or a police report.
  3. Proof of payment of the administration fee. Download our bank details (PDF 50 kb) to make the payment.

 *Please note that the medical certificates must state inability to appear for the test on the scheduled test date. 
IELTS Test Date Transfers will only be processed if there are places available for the new test date.

Cancellation

*The contract between you and the British Council will only be formed when you are sent the Enrolment Confirmation.

  • You may cancel your test up to five weeks before the exam date. You will be charged an administration fee no greater than 25% of the cost of the test. You will have to send a signed copy of the IELTS refund form (PDF 1 mb) to your IELTS administration centre
  • If you cancel your test within five weeks of the test date for any reason apart from the following: certified illness, loss or bereavement – death of a close family member, hardship/trauma – victim of crime, victim of a traffic accident you will not be eligible to receive a refund. 
You will have to send the following documents within five working days after your test date to your IELTS administration centre
:
  1. A signed copy of the IELTS refund form (PDF 1 mb).
  2. Medical certificate from a qualified medical practitioner*
  3. A death certificate, or a police report.

*Please note that the medical certificates must state inability to appear for the test on the scheduled test date.

Amendment of test module

Candidates may change the test module (Academic/General Training) but any amendment must be made prior to your test date.

Candidates who want to change their test module must fill in the IELTS Module Change Form (PDF 66kb) and send it to their IELTS administration centre.

IELTS modules changes will only be processed if there are places available for the new module requested.
