Teenagers learning in the Bonanova centre

At only 15, Victor’s daughter has been studying English in the Bonanova Young Learners centre for 10 years. Although she’s embarrassed to show her father her command of the language, Víctor realises her progress when they travel abroad or watch original version movies. He talks about his experience with us.

Do you think it’s necessary to give extra support to children when they are starting to learn English at an increasingly younger age at school?

-Of course. In the case of my daughter we want her to learn four languages (Spanish, Thai, Catalan and English). I know from my experience we have to practise and reinforce a language beyond school to command it, as I did with English. My daughter needs more reinforcement with this language, that’s why we registered her at the British Council.

What kind of course is she taking?

-She is taking a General English course and, as she is achieving higher levels of English, her teachers encourage her to take an official exam: she took the Cambridge English: Preliminary (PET) and now she’s studying for the First Certificate in English.

What do you value most in our teaching method?

-At this age the academic content is important but, above all, my daughter is happy, she enjoys the classes. She is always eager to go and I don’t have to force her: I think this is crucial to keep her interested in learning English.

And in our centre?

-Without doubt, the excellent, caring treatment of the staff. My daughter had to leave classes for some months and they gave me all the help I needed: they always welcomed me with a smile and helped me to solve any problems.

We’re glad to hear that and we hope to see you soon :-)
