He was a brilliant observer, a talented portrait artist as well as a critic of contemporary Spanish society. His powerful vision of the world and his mastering of technique made him into the artistic icon he is today. Thanks to his letters and his unique works and sketches, the man he was and the world he captured with his paintbrush are brought to life.
