NEW UK DRAMA: Milly Thomas
Date
Friday 01 February 2019 - 15:48 to Saturday 02 February 2019 - 15:48

The critically acclaimed and award-winning playwright and performer Milly Thomas, will be taking part in the project Read, Play, Meet, Repeat organized in Madrid by Bella Batalla, Esto Podría Ser and El Pavón Teatro Kamikaze in collaboration with the British Council / New UK Drama.

Milly Thomas is an actor and currently one of the most sought-after dramatists in the United Kingdom. She received the Stage Edinburgh Award for her performance in her play Dust, which in 2019 was nominated for best New Play and Best Off West End Production in the WhatsOnStage awards. Her other plays include A First World Problem, Piggies, Clickbait and Brutal Cessation. She has written scripts for the BBC (the series’ River City and Clique) and is currently adapting Dust for television.

In her works Milly Thomas doesn’t hesitate to confront subjects that are taboo or rarely dealt with on stage. In Dust for example, we accompany Alice in the afterlife after having committed suicide and discover the impact that the death of this millennial has on her relatives and friends. In Clickbait we follow Nicola who decides to open her own online channel of pornographic videos with all the prejudices that a woman undergoes when dealing with sexuality on the internet. In Brutal Cessation Thomas offers an x-ray of the violence in a couple’s relationship in which the male and female roles are constantly interchanged, bringing into question what we normally consider to be the harassment suffered by a woman or a man.

Milly Thomas will visit Madrid on 1st and 2nd February, 2019
