Within the cycle "Classics for all" the British Council is promoting the concerts of the Philarmonia Orchestra and Esa-Pekka Salonen in Ibermúsica - Auditoria Nacional de Música.
The prestigious British Philharmonia Orchestra returns to Ibermúsica with two concerts on the 24th and 25th February. The two concerts offered are premiering the Funeral Song (Stravinsky) and Forest (Tansy Davies). Under the baton of their conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen, they will also perform the complete Ballet of Daphnis et Chloé (Ravel) accompanied by the choir of the Comunidad de Madrid. At the second concert which will take place at the Auditori Nacional de Música de Madrid, the repertoire will include Concert for piano number 5 "Emperor" (Beethoven) and the popular symphonic poem Thus spake Zarathustra (Strauss)
The Philarmonia Orchestra is one of the great internacional ensembles, a leader in its interpretative quality and its innovative projects. Salonen took the role of principal conductor 8 years ago, a restless innovator with an unusual musicality. On the concert of the 24th of February they will be joined by the French pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard, a key figure in the contemporary music scene.
